The      story     of     SpotOn     Grading     Systems

Filling the void…

Find a problem, Fix a problem.

With uncountable price guides, numerous grading sites with pages of explanations and conflicting information at every turn there was truly nothing out there which gave the end user the power to grade and assess a collectible simple, easy and unbiased. There was something missing in the collecting community and a group of 4 people sat down to work out what it was.

“Spot”…

Pizza, 3am and the algorithm.

Over the course of a year, lots of late nights, pizza and early hours into the morning we analyzed data we collected and worked on a spreadsheet that mimicked the data used to grade book conditions. Once we had enough data and testing was complete, we created the algorithm that is the core of SGS. We called the program “Spot”.

Putting Spot to the test…

Created by collectors, for collectors.

Once “Spot” was completed, it was time to test it out and see what it could do. Hours upon hours were spent with our Beta team bouncing the program against previously graded books and checking to see what worked and what didn’t. After weeks of testing (and lots more pizza) “Spot” was spot on. Every book we threw at it was exact. The next step was to see what would happen with raw books. After the group agreed on a grade of a raw book, “Spot” was once again bought out and graded the book. The results were perfect. Each book graded raw came within .5 of the grade the team agreed on. And with that, SpotOn Grading Systems was born. We are pleased to bring you our creation and hope “Spot” will become an addition to your family as it had become one of ours.
